At BMCC, teachers facilitate learning though both group and independent activities that engage children's hearts and minds. Whether observing play, encouraging curiosity by asking questions, or imparting wisdom though modeling, our teachers invite children to think, grow, play and build friendships, and recognize that they are vital members of their community. Adopted from the Reggio Emilia Approach, BMCC also encourages the children to explore the theory of "loose parts".  These are materials that can be moved, carried, combined, redesigned, lined up, and taken apart and put back together in multiple ways.

The Children's Center uses two curriculums, both of which are founded on decades of research and demonstrated results. Children through the age of three are taught via Creative Curriculum, which is an emergent program that encourages children to explore ideas and personal interests. Four and five-year-olds are taught via the Developmental Learning Materials (DLM) Curriculum, which focuses on developing literacy and preparing children for kindergarten. BMCC understands the clear connection between the development of fine motor skills in early life and later success in math, science and reading. Teachers are trained to provide a variety of "invitations to learn" areas in the classroom, while keeping this purposeful play fun and engaging!

Our strictly enforced low teacher/student ratios mean your children receive the individual attention they need and deserve. This also allows us to introduce materials and techniques that are new & fun in small groups. From sewing & felting to gardening and music, we use our low teacher/student ratios as an opportunity to provide additional extra currirular activities.

BMCC's removed the traditional playground equipment with incredible foam "blocks" from Imagination Playground, and we've never looked back! BMCC children enjoy creating their own playscape to explore, climb on/under and lose themselves in their imaginations. They are also responsible for cleaning/packing them up at the end of the day.
